Arrest of a Supposed Forger
ATTEMPT TO SWALLOW A CHEQUE. A geuteery-dreased young man named James Gill, a aew arrival from San Francisco via Melbourne, was arrested in Sydney on the 12th. inst. He is charged with having, at the '. least-named city, forged the name of i a San Francisco merchant who is at j present in Sydney. The accused adi mitted his identity, and ho was at once locked up. Whilst hoing "hooked" at the police station the detectives observed him in thw act of attempting to swallow something. This was at once forced out of his mouth, and upon | examination it proved to be a forged cheque for £34 10s purporting to he signed by the America v Coasul at ■ Melbourne. ] »im. iii i ■... 1.1 1M...111 m I
