Folding Borough Council
The usual fortnightly meeting of the Feiiding Borough Council was held at the Borough offices on. Thursi daj evening last. Present — Hi* Worship the Mayor, and Ors Bishop, [ Foster, Fowles, P. Thomson,' Worsfold, and J. Bartholomew. MINUTES. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. The following correspondence was read : — From W. Beaufort, complaining of the nuisance caused by tame pigeons in the neighborhood of the Borough offices, and asking permission to shoot them. From D. M. Luckie, manager of the Government Insurance Association, in reference to an application from the Oeuncil to redeem £470 of leas debentures, and declining to accede to the request made. From Q. T. H. Lyne, requesting the Ceußcil to remove the flax from Bection No 345. From A. P. Webster, asking permission to put in a culvert opposite the Bank's premises. From W. Watts, requesting, the Council to improve Fitzroy street, between Beattie and Denbigh streets, the applicant alleging the street named to be in an impassable condition. [Referred to the Borough Engineer.] From J. Turner, Banger and Borough .Poundkeeper, asking that the Council might pass a resolution to free him from the terms used against him in the R.M. Court by Mr Staite that he was being discharged for being obnoxious and tyrannical. Proposed by Cr Fowles, seconded by Or Bishop, That Mr Beaufort be granted permission to use fire arms for one month from date to remove the nuisance complained of in his letter. — Carried. Proposed by Or Foster, seconded by Cr Bishop, That Mr Webster be granted permission to put in a culvert, subject to the approval of the Borough Engineer. — Carried. Proposed by Cr Fowles, seconded by Cr P. Thomson, That the Council j is perfectly satisfied with the manner; in which Mr J. Turner, Eanger and Poundkeeper, performed his duties during his term of office, and that his dismissal has nothing whatever to do with the conduct. — Carried. POT7NDKEEPSB. Only ene application was received for the effiee of Poundkeeper and Banger, viz., that of 0. Hodges, whose application on the motion of Cr Bishop, seconded by Cr Foster, was accepted, subject to his fulfilling the conditions of the agreement. MISCELLANEOUS. Proposed by Gt Worsfold, seconded by Cr J. Bartholomew, That the Borough Council's seal be affixed to the transfer document in connection with the piece of- land purchased by the Council from Dr Johnston. — Carried. Ah application was received from J. W. Eade, asking' permission frem the Counoil to erect hitohing posts in front of his business premises. On the motion of Cr Foster, seoonded by Cr Bishop, the application was granted, the work to be Bubjeet to the Borough Engineer's approval. Proposed by Cr Worsfold, seconded by Cr J. Bartholomew, That the works proposed by the Engineer for diverting the overflow of water in North street be agreed to, and the expense be a oharge on the Loan account. — Carried. Proposed by Cr Foster, seconded by Cr Bishop, That the agreement drawn up by the committee to be signed by the newly appointed Banger and Peundkeeper be adopted. — Carried A discussion here followed with reference te the procuring of a firebell for. the town. It was ultimately decided that steps should be taken to obtain permission to use the school ball temporarily for the purpose. Cr Worsfold called the attention of ihe Counoil to the nuisance and danger that existed through the furious driving of horses through the streets at night time. Complaints had been made to him on the subject, and he considered the nuisance should be abated. The Mayor read the bye-law dealing with the subject. After some discussion it was deoided to ask Constable Meehan to take the matter in hand, and warn persons of the consequences that would result from such breaches of the Borough bye-laws. The Council then adjourned.
