Feilding Star. THUESDAY, AUGUST 19, 1886. A Produce Market

Ik November next when the Welling-lington-Manawatu Railway ia finished, a new market will be opened for producers on this coast. The articles of consumption which will be most in demand are beef, mutton, pork, bacon, fowls, eggs, cheese, butter, and all classes of vegetables. The foresight of Messrs F. R. Jackson & Co., in establishing sale yards in the suburbs of Wellington city, has anticipated the requirements of growers of cattle, sheep, and pigs ; but dairy farmers, upon whom will fall the task of raisimg the other items, hare as yet made no sign that they are aware of the splendid opportunites soon to be available for them to find an outlet for their produce. The consumption of fowls, eggs, and butter, alone in Wellington with its increasing population and the enormous shipping trade, will more than absorb any additions to the present supply of these articles of food, which the whole district can provide. We therefore advise our settlers to be up and doing. Not only is the locality peculiarly well adapted for raising poultry, &c., but the season is exceptionally favorable for that purpose. While the settlers at this emd are doing their part, those interested in Wellington should arramge for a regular public place whence produce could bo consigned in a certain day in each week tolbe disposed of by public auction or private sale, as was found most convenient for sellen and buyers. The Government and the Directors of the Wellington-Manawatu railway would probably meet the convenience of the travelling public by issuing " Market day tickets," available for three days, from all stations between Wanganui and Wellington. By bo doing the passenger traffio would be profitably encouraged, also without the loss of a penny by the several railways.
