[PBB UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON, AugUlt 12. VAIIjB's HAILWAY SYSTEM. The report of the Select Committee on Yaile's railway system was brought up. It stated that while the evidence adduced had not been sufficient to prove that the system would be a financial success or warrant its application to railways as a whole, it had been shown that there was great discontent with the present adminiatratiou, which was neither cheap nor satisfactory. The Committee there- ' fore, bearing in mind the great im- - portance of the subject, is ef opinion j that a trial should be given to the system on isolated sections of our railways. In order to guard against loss ; it is stipulated that the local bodies of v ' the district in which the experiment is tried, must first strike a rate sufficient to receup any deficiency, which is to be estimated from the previous " year's revenue. • ■. . . The Government Insurance Bill was received with a new clause, which Sir ; Julius Yogel explained was to enable the Governor to sign orders of dis- ' : charge in connection with mortgages. ' The consideration of the clause was postponed. ;.. DISTRICT RAILWAYS. On the motion for recommittal of the District Railways Purchasing Act Amendment Bill, the Hon. Mr Richardson said the Government wished to give the House another opportunity of making up their minds to accede to the company's terms. — Mr Conolly, and Mr W. T.
