MR MATHEW BURNETT.

Oa Thursday evening a meeting was held in the' Temperance Hall for the purpose of making arrangements for receiving Mr Mathew Burnett, the celebrated temperance lecturer. The Eev. Mr Griffin presided. The Rev. Mr Clarke. opened the proceedings with prayer. Mr J.-..G. Thompson was elected secretary- . • The chairman Btated the object of the meeting, which he heartily supported. '.He read a letter from Mr Burnett making certain suggestions. Resolved, That tho following be a committee" to make and carry out the details, and make arrangements for the mission — Mrs Sajisbury, the Revs. Clarke' and Griffin, Messrs Carthew, Lucas! Curran, Hawes, J. C. Thompson,' ..smith, Kirton, Christeueen, and several others whose ; napes our reporter was unable to ascertain with power to add to their number; .; The Revs. Griffin and Clarke, and Messrs Z. O. .Thompson and Lucas were appointed an Executive Committee. ;, . „ Resolved, That the lectures be given in the Public Hall on Thursday and Friday, the lsih and 20th instant. Resolved, That the member for the district, D. Hi Macarthur, Esq., and the Mayor, F. Y. Lethbridge, Esq., be invited ta preside &t the lectures, respectively. . . Resolved, Ihat the Feilding. Brass Band be invited, to assist. Arrangements were made for a lecture to be given to the schoolchildren Attending the State School on the afternoon of -Thursday, the_l9th inst. Districts were allotted to members of the Committee, to distribute leaflets and invite "persona to attend the lectures. ... A programme :was drawn, up for lectures" to, be held at Awahuri and Makino. This concluded the general business -of the. meeting, which was closed with the benediotion. A meeting of the Executive Committee was afterwards held, and much detail work arranged.
