A meeting «f the leaden of the Liberal party was held to-day, at which it was resolved not to take any action upon the assembling of Parliament, but await the delivery of the Queen's speech, before deciding upon the course to be pursued in opposition. It if understood that the meeting agreed to assist Government in the passage of Supply. ' It is anticipated that a little new Mood will be infused into the Conservative Cabinet now being 1 formed^ If the Marquis on' Londonderry accepts the position of Viceroy of Ireland, Sir Michael Hicks-Beach will become Chief Secretary for Ireland. Lord Randolph Churchill is leading jn the House of Commons during Sir Michael's absence. Viscount Cranbrook may possibly take the office of Secretary for the Colonies. . July 29. Further appointments in the new Ministry include the following : — Lord Salisbury, Lord High Chancellor ; W. H. Smith, Secretary of State fir War; Lord George Hamilton, First Lord of the Admiralty.
Mr Chamberlain made a statement fully endorsing the promise made to tke Marquis of Hartington to support the Conservative Administration in dealing with the Irish difficulty
