The Home Elections

(beutbb's telegrams.) London, July 9. Up to the present 714,000 ayes and 776,000 noes have been recered for and against Mr Gladstone in constituencies which at the general election in November last had given him a majority of 78,000 votes. Mr Gladstone denies a statement to the effect that he had received suggestions from Irish Americans regarding his Home Rule proposals. Sir John Lubbock (London University), the Right Hon. D. Plunket (Dublin University), and th«» Bight Hon. H. Holmes (Dublin University), have been re-elected members of the House of Commons. July 10. The latest election returns gives the state of parties as follows : — Conservatives, 290 ; Unionists, 62 ; Gladstones, 149 ; and Parnellites, 72. The Marquis of Hartington was reelected for Rossendale (Lancashire), and Mr Leonard Courtney was reelected for Bodwin. Mr G. 0. Trevelyan, who in March last resigned the position of Secretary for Scotland in Gladstone's Government, has been defeated for Hawick by a Gladstonite candidate. Mr Joseph Arch, labor candidate, and Mr Timothy Healy, nationtvlist, have been defeated for North-west Norfolk and Londonderry respectively. Conservative candidates have been elected for Liberal seats at Harborough (Leicestershire), Ripon (Yorkshire), Stourmarket (Suffolk), Gainsborough ( Lincolnshire), Northwest Staffordshire, Hyde (Cheshire), Rumford (Essex), Penrith (Cumberland), and Biggleswade (Bedfordshire). Gladstonite candidates secured former Liberal seats for Cardigan and Osgoldcross (Yorkshire).
