Hospital Board

The ordinary monthly meeting was held oh. Thursday, July Bth. i 'resent ". .—Messrs Jackson, (chairman), Peat, "Beckett, and Poison. After confirming the minutes the secretary reported . ihe case of a man named Kobert Brown, who met with an accident at : Feilding some time back. . His acci- . dent had secured hind/ admission to tke Hospital, bnt the doctors said they could do no, more for him, and the question now. was who was responsible for his maintenance. He had not been resident six months in ; any particular place, .having come .-from Napier to Wangai;ui, and then .travelled from there to Marton, thence to Feilding, where he met with his 'accident in a gravel pit. The chairman said, the man was utterly helpless, and something must be done to give him assistance. He supposed that as the man had no fixed place oE abode, the district generally would have to meet the case. The accident | was one which would disable the man for life, and the doctors could do nothing for ' him. He had been two years in the colony, of which nineteen months were spent in the Hospital.— Cr Peat thought the Act gave them power to fiend the unfortunate man back to ' Feilding. The patient came from ; within the contributing district, and mufltv.be sent back to Feilding when the doctors could do nothing for him. If this were not {the case Wanganui would be flooded with cages for which it was noot responsible. — Mr Beckett said he had no .doubt but that Mr Peat's reading of clause 74 was corirect; ? It -was of course known that when ,the Act was, passed it was never contemplated that the district should he split up into divisions, but if the counties refused to carry out their duties the present system which had . beep, adopted, for convenience sake would have to be brought to an end. •—lt was resolved, That the Oroua County Council should be written to, -and asked to take steps to provide for him. — Herald.
