Oroua County

Fbom the Government Gazette of the Ist instant we gather the following interesting particulars of the holdings, of one acre and upwards, in the County of Oroua. Freehold, 688 ; rented, 112; part free and part rented, 49; total, 849. In sown grasses, after haviug been ploughed, 4,887 acres ; in sown grasses, not previously ploughed, 81,877 acres. In hay, 336 acres. Land broken up but not under crop, 461 acres. Total under crop, in wheat, oats, barley, maize, &c, 1,325 acres. There are 1 79 acres in garden and 165 acres in orchard. Only 10 acres are returned as down in hops. With the exception of Manakau with its 1,440, and Eden with its 752 holdings, Oroua ranks highest in the North Island with 688; Taranaki follows close with 666. The lewest is East Taupo, with only 3 holdings.
