HOUSE OF ' BEPBESENTATIVES. [PEB UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Julj 5. PETITION. Dr Grace presented a petition from sufferers by the eruption, asking for help. counties bill. * The Counties Bill was further considered in Committee. Sir Ifc. Stout moved the insertion of the following new counties :— Hobson, Otamatea, Botorua, and to change the names of Wairarapa East and liVest into North and South. Mr Stout's motion was carried by 40 to 30. Clause 168, " Separate, accounts to be kept for ridings comprising road and town districts," was struck out, on the motion of the Premier. Clause 275, " Council may contribute out of county funds for school buildings. The clause was struck out on the voices. This Day. A number of new clauses were added, among them was one giving Councils the power to spend money in eradicating Calif ornian thistle or other noxious weeds. — On the motion of Mr O'Connor a clause was added permitting travelling expenses to be paid to County Chairman up to £100 per Annum.— The Committee aro still discussing the new clauses proposed by the various members. — Mr Guinness proposed a new clause giving Counties power to pay clerks to Licensing Committees was carried on the voices. —On the motion of Mr Macarthur a new clause was passed giving power to two or more Counties to unite.-r-Schedules were amended and the Bill reported. .The House rose at*2;s p.m. .
