Svanninge v. Bell

The following report of the case of Svauninge v. Bell appearod in the Wellington Evening Post of the 23rd inst. : — ' ' Motions in the case of Svanninge v. Bell, whioh action was heard some months ago, were taken in the Banco Court to daj by M r Justice Richmond, Mr Chapman, and Mr Bell, counsel on either side, applying for judgment for their respective clients on the respective issue* found by the jury. The case, it will be recollected, i was one in which the plaintiff sued for 110,000 damages for alleged deprivations of rights in connection with a sawmill and forest in the Manawatu district near Feilding. His Honor, after argument, gave judgement against the defendants Dr Spratt, Wyatt, anil Coleman Phillips (who were joined with Bell in the case) with coata not to exceed £200." Mr Goodbehere, the plaiutiff's solicitor, informs us that the judgment of the Court was /or, and not against tho dofondants. The result will theroforo be that the plaintiff will not be entitled 'to receive tho damages of £650 awarded by tho jury.
