Feilding Borough Council
The ordinary meeting of the above was held on Tbursday evening last at the offices of the Council. Present — Cra Thompsou (in the chair), Eade, Worsfold, Richardson, P. Thomson, < and Fowles. | The minutes of the last ordinary and special meetings were read and . confirmed. -' The following correspondence was ' read: — % From Messrs Williamson, again re- ' ferring to the matter of the approaches \ to their property on Kimbolton road, ■ and asking a re-consideration thereof . ■■ i Froni E. B. Gichard, asking pcr T mission from the Council to make a drain into the culvert in Manchester street. '<From W. Brandt, Btating he was willing to fill in gravel in front of hit [premises, but not in front of the property of others. From F. J. Knox, stating he had no objection to diverting the Makino stream at the corner of section 562. From Prior and Sandilands, re transfer of Dr Johnston's land t&the Council. , A (The Mayor here entered th'e^room and took the chair). ^S Proposed by Or Eade, seconded by Cr Thompson, Thnt this be an instruction to the Engineer to have a crossing made in front of Messrs Williamson's property in Kimbolton road.— Carried. ; _ r In speaking to this resolution, Cr Fowles objected to any culver^ or expensive work being put in. Proposed by Cr Thompson, seconded by Cr Richardson, That the request of E. B. Gichard be granted, re culvert to drain his property, subject to the approval of the Engineer. — Carried. Proposed by Cr Worsfold, seconded by Cr Richardson, That the Engineer be instructed to put in a culvert opposite to Mr Brandt's property.-—Car-ried. Cr Thompson said that unless the Council decided at once, Mr Arnott was about to build on his property. [It is understood this was supposed to refer to land under offer to the Council for diversion of the Makino stream.] Proposed by Cr Eade, seconded by Cr Thompson, That this he an instruction to the Town Clerk to instruct Messrs Prior and Sandilands to obtain for this Council a lease of the section on which the Borough Found ia erected from the E. and 0. A. Corporation, and to get the same registered. Cr Eade said he understood the Council was to have a lease of the land wfyh right of renewal. Cr Thompson said he would suggest that the matter be held over until tho return of Mr Macarthur. The motion was put, and lost on a division. , , Prior and Sandilands' letter and j accounts were referred to the Finance Committee. The following tenders were then opened for the Kiwitea stream protestion work on Kimbolton road : — J. Aitken, £75 lis; R. Cornish and Co., £59 10b; R. Menaies, £70. Proposed by Cr Thompson, seconded by Cr Fowles, That the tender of R. Cornish and Co. be accepted for the Kiwitea protection works, subject to the securities being approved of hy the Mayor and Engineer. — Carried. . Proposed by Cr Fowles, seconded hy Cr P. Thomson, That the report of the Committee referring to the purchase of Mr Arnott's property in! Derby Btreet be adopted. — Carried, -j Proposed by Cr Thompson, seconded by Cr Richardson, That the Poundkeeper and Ranger receive notice that his services will not be required on' the expiring ef the twelve months, for which he* was engaged, the arrangement between him and the Council not being satisfactory. In speaking to the"* resolution, Cr Thompson said he was not aiming at the Sanger. He referred also to the discision of the R.M. Cr Richardson said he had nothing to say against the Ranger, but the impounding was a burden too great for the people to bear. The Mayor did hot see the necessity of the resolution., Cir Eade agreed with the Mayor. The resolution was put and oatfried: Proposed by Cr Worsfold, seoonded by Cr Richardson, That the Engineer be instiuoted to -ijail -f 6* tehders to clear out ihe Makino stream below the bridge in South street. — Carried.
