COMMERCIAL.
THE MARKET. A Wellington paper says there has hardly any change in the prices for commodities for the last fortnight. There has be«i only one arrival of an English vessel, the Eaikoura, from Loftvia Auckland. She had less cargo for Wellington than is usually brought by the direct steamers. Several vessels? both from I'.Bgland and America, may be ex pected soon. Most articles are in good stock, tinned salmon is an exception. It is so scarce as hardly to be quoted. Grain of all sorts is very firm. The latest news of the London and I'ontinci.t I Wool Market is somewhat cheering. In Antwerp there has been a rise over tiro previous rates of ld to l_d per lb. In London the advance appears to be con* fined t* merino wool. Short-stapled merino, greasy, is reported to have risen from 'd to ld per lb, and scoured merino ld to l|d. Cross- bred is said to be neglected. The present gain is a highly important one, as the merino flocks in this colony still largly outnumber those of any otber breed.
