Judgment Summonses
! At the Ranffiorn Magistrates' Court recently Mr Spackmau, solicitor,; named a matter of nome interest to plaintiffs who hare to take out judgment snni monies. It appears that in smch places where the debtor lives at » distance from the Court the plaintiff has to forward, the amount of the debtor's expenses, to enable him to attend. Of coiiwe the costs are added to the claim, but, as Mr Spackman I showed, it some times happens that when ; » debtor rewire* a fair amount of ready 1 cash for his expenses he pockets it and i treats' the process with contempt by not attending, and the plaintiff being uuable to state the means of defendant is often notable to. induce the Bench to make an order in the debtor's absence. To remedy this it Was suggested that the law might be amended that no expenses need be tendered, ami tlie debtor on being summoned, should show, cause at the neiiie'st Magistrates' Court, as if it was at the Court where the process first originated.— Press. .
