Archibald Cook, aged 10, was drowned playing at the timber booms in Free* man's Bay. John Froskyke, who was seriously burned at the fire at Borsboom'i lodging house, died at the hospital. At the inquest on the first viotim, who is still unidentified, the verdict was death from a fall. A rider was added te the effect that officisl supervision of boarding and lodging heuies should be enforced, and fire escapes insisted oa. A Maori woman was burnt to death in a whare at Kirikiri.
