The Coming Session
The following Bills will be presented during the session : — Mr Ballance will reintroduce the Native Lands Disposition Bill, under the title of the Native Lauds Administration Bill with sundry amendments suggested by the Maoris during the Native Minister's many meetings with the tribes in the North. He will also introduce the Defence and Police Consolidation Bills. The Minister of Justice has several measures to propose. One is to amend the Justices of the Peace Act dealing inter alia with the provisions for forming a rota. He will reintroduce the Criminal Code Bill, and the Supreme Courts Reporting Bill, and will bring in consolidation measure embodying the Acts relating to resident Magistrate's Courts. The Premier has already prepared the Municipal Corporations Consolidation Bill, and will introduce a Bill relating to Divorce. This, we understand, will give facilities for dissolution of marriage on the ground of desertion, habitual drunkenness, or conviction for a criminal offence for a term of five years and upwards, and will also place both sexes upon an equal footing as regards obtaining a divorce for adultery. The only measure, so far, projected bj Mr* Larnach is the Mines Consolidation Bill.
