Football Notes

MARTON V. FEILDING.

A match between the Feilding 1 and Marton boys wua played oa the Oval last Saturday, and resulted in a victory for Feilding by two tries (4 points) to nil. The teams seemed very evenly matched as regards strength but the Feilding lasted longer, and towards the end had a good deal the best of the game. For young players both sides displayed a good knowledge of the rules, and the interference of the umpires was very seldom required. The prominent faults on each side were neglecting to pass and running buck. The latter particularly should be guarded against. There were two spells of forty minutes each, play commencing at 2.30 p.m. No score was made till just before the end of the first spell when Parr, the Captain of the Feilding team, ran behind aud secured the first try, but the kick at goal was not successful. In the second spell Foster obtained another try for Feilidng, but the kick was a difficult one, and again no .goal resulted. For Feilding, Parr ran and kicked with very good judgment, ami should develop into a good player. Amongst the forwards Worsfold and Staite were the most noticoable. For Marton, McDonald aud Brown amongst tho forwards, and Mitchell amongst the backs showed best form.

Next Saturday an alphabetical match will be played on the Oval, commencing at 3 p.m. Tho following are the players : —

Ato H— lt. Bolfit, M. Belfit, Corkery, Criohton, Evaus, Grilmer, Gurnev, W. Halcombe, C. Hulcumbe, Hill, Hartgill, Benson, Broughton, Bellve, Gregory, and Graham. I to Z — Jenkins, iLane, Lethbridge, McDonald. Hoe, Terry, Thomson, R. Whisker, J. Whisker, Manning, Parr, Turner, Wyllie, Rose, andStaite.

It is hoped there will be a good muster, as some of the Cup matches are coming off shortly, and no team can expect to win without practice. Of course any player whose name is not mentioned in the above list will be welcome.

Drop-Kick.
