A Singular Crime
An atmosphere of interest always surrounds those persons who have had any exceptional experience of life, or who have been witnesses to pay striking ; oocurence. How highly, then, must her neighbors esteem the society of that young servant girl at Szolnok, in Hungary, who recently underwent the following ordeal and survived it:— Her master, the Protestant minister of the place, made her hold a candle while his wife wrote down a confession of her misconduct towards him; after which he shot the lady, her three children, and himself,'leaving the poor girl the only person in the house alive. How feeble are the personal adventures, "tiger stories," and what not, we hear from our after-dinner heroes in comparison with such a record as this.
