The, police authorities ordered the crowd to disperse, 'but the Socialists offered »' £^bora .resistance, throwing explosive . bombs, amongst the p<&oe. killing five and wounding many others. The police then fired upon the rioters, fifty 6| whom were shot dead and a large ¥ number wounded. The greatest eon* sternation prevails in the City, business being to a large extent at a >: standstill.
