The Storm in Canterbury

A GIRL DROWNED IN A CREEK (pee united press association.) Chbistchubch. April 30. During the storm yesterday, tw« girls, aged respectively eleven and seven years, the children of Mr John May, Little Akaloa, were washed away in the creek. The youngest was found drowned at 3.30 o'clock p.m., but the other was found about 5 o'clock jammed by a log, alive. She is now apparently all right. Much damage has been done to the bridges and culverts in the Akaroa district. Later. The rain has ceased and the floods subsided. No serious damage is reported. In the 24 hours, ending at 9 o'clock a.m., 3.25 inches of rain fell.
