B terrible case of wife- murder occurred at Forbes, near Eilmore, aifew weeks ago. In the evening, when Brook«r» -#a* B&f^'l £ posed to hare gone into a paddock for the cows, the daughter of a ;neiiilifeo£ 1 passed in a cart, and Mrs Brooker* asked ( |to be driven to her pareats' house for s protection. Her husband at this instant' came from behind a tree with a gun in his hand, and drafgiug the unfortunate woman from the cart began to cut her throat with a large knife. Upon the : young cirl who wan i the vehicle scream* ing, Brookes threatened to kill her also and she drove away quickly and alarmed the neighbors. On the police proceed* ing to the scene of the tragedy the nn«> fortunate woman was found lying in a pool of blood fearfully gaslied about the throat. She was taken to the hospital, but died soon after admission. The murderer after committing the deedmade; f for the ranges, armed with a gun. H»^ has lived for fifteen years in the district, ; and was considered a respectable man, though somewhat of a morose disposition The police scoured the country for him, and the body of the murderer was discovered in the bush with the threat cut.
