[iIEUTEES TELEWBAMB.~i London, April 21. In consequence of opposition, the cable rate between England and America has been reduced to 6d per word. A desperate attempt has been made by rebels in Burmah te destroy the town of Mandalay by fire. Fortunately the British garrison had sufficient warning to prevent the attempt proving successful. The Orient C»mpany will tender for the carrying of the mails under the new Federal Service. Tho third of the series of wool sales will commence on June 16. It is believed that an attack on the Turks l.y Greeks is imminent, and that Russia is doing her best to hamper the Powers. Mandalat, April 21. Reports from Bhamo state that a force of 200 British have been carrying on operations in Kachin district, north of Bhamo. The stockades of the Kachins were carried by assault, and the rebels dispersed. The British trorps returned to Bhamo with two officers wounded.
