The Fall Mall Gazette and Standard comment upon the proposal that France should b» permitted to annex the New Hebrides. Both the journals named applaud the firmness of Victoria and the other colonies in opposing a compromise. Mr O'Dougherty, who was formerly a member of the Queensland Legislative Council, but who at the last general election was eleoted to represent Meath in the House of Commons, has notified his intention of moving that members of the colonial Legislatures should be permitted to take part in the debates in the House of Commons without a right to vote.
The French Press approve of Mr Gladstone's Irish proposals, but both the German and Austrian Press condemn them.
Hanlon has challenged Beach to row a match on the Thames for £500 a side.
