R,A. silver star, and £10, 442 ; Volunteer Downie, Thames, £7 10s, 434 ; Lieutenant Cooper, Auckland, £7 10s, 434 Carbine Championship.—-Lieuten-ant Ross, Napier, Carbine Belt for one year, gold star, and £40, 485 ; Gunner Webster, Auckland, N.Z.R.A. silver star, and £20, 475 ; Sergeant Kuchen, Wellington, N.Z.R.A. silver star, and £10, 468; P.O. Lloyd, Wanganui, £7, 467 ; Corporal Parslow, Auckland, £2 10s, 467. Squads were told off to test the Auckland ammunition, and the test was an utter failure. The first shot fired burst the breech of one carbine, and a second breech was injured. Churton had his hammer blown clean •ff on firing his first shot. Several who tried the cartridges had powder flashed into their faces, while one competitor had his eyebrow singed. In nearly every instance the end of the cartridge case blew out. Wavgahvi, This Day. The proceedings terminated yesterday when the team match was fired for, and won by the Wanganui team. The Union Company's Cup contest was also concluded, Lieutenant Ross (carbine champion) being the winner. The presentation of prizes was made by Mrs Spurdle, the Mayoress, amidst great enthusiasm.
