STEVENS AND GORTON'S STOCK REPORT.

We held a very successful little sale at Woodville on March 2, and sold everything but 3 milch cows, on which the reserve was considered too high. The pure bred Ayrshires met with great admiration, Bobby Burns, Tillie, and the calf Jessie falling to the bid of Mr J. Murphy at £15 15s, £10, and £7 7s respectively ; Beauty 1. falling to the bid of £9 9s from Mr Whitcombe. We quote also: yearling heifers, £2 2/6 to £2 7/6; weaners, 22/6; 2-yr heifers, £2 17/6; cows, £3 10/- ; ewes, 5/10 to 6/- ; x culls, 4/- ; shorn lambs, 4/- ; hacks, £8 10/- to £11 10/-. Our Palmerston sale on March 4 was well attended. We yarded 4800 to 5000 sheep, and 72 rams. The entries of cattle though over 100 head were npt so largo as usual. The bidding was brisk and the m alt satisfactory. More particularly as regards sheep, the majority of which were quitted under the hammer, we quote — Bullocks, £5 10/- ; fat cows, £3 15/- ; 3-yr steers, £4 19/-; 18-mo steers, £2 15/- ; 18-mo heifers, £2 ; milch cows, £5; fat wethers, 7/11 to 9/-; fat ewes, 7/- ; breeding ewes, of- to 7/- ; lambs in wool, 3/8 to 5/6 ; shorn lambs, 3/9 to o/-; culls, 2/3 to 3/2 ; Mr J. G. Wilson's Lincoln rams, averaged a little over 2 guineas ; Messrs Bryant Bros.'s Bomney rams, £2 to £2 2/- ; other breeders, 10/---to If guineas ; hacks, £3 to £7 7/6. Bulls, March 6, 1886.
