We understand that tho versatile and talonted Miss Gcorgio Bmithson -will shortly re- visit Foilding. Tho Gazette notifies that tho Now Plymouth and Wanganui shoep districts liavo been declared clean. Now that tho Feilding Building Society has been incorporated, several applications for shares have been made, and deposits paid to the Secretary. The two Mission clergymen addressed the workmen at the Addington workshops the other day during tho dinner hour. Rather rough, this, on the men ! If Sir William Fox gets a seat in the House next Parliament, ho will be a valuable accession to the ranks of the present Opposition. Tho hop crop in tho Nelson country districts is said to have suffered very much from the heavy gusts of wind experienced on Monday. Wo have to acknowledge receipt < f Williamson and Co.'s Share report for February. This is one of the safest Guides to Investors published in the colony, and gives tho most copious information on financial subjects. In another column we publish tho railway time table for tho Wauganui Races on March 9th and 10th — Excursion fares. Tickets issued on the evening of Mondaj' &c Sth instant will be available for roturn by all trains on the 9th, and tho morning train on the 10th instant. Wo are indebted to the Secretary for Crown Lands for a copy of tho New Zealand Crown Lands Guide, No. VII, published by the authority of tho Hon. John Ballanco, Minister of Lands. In our report of tho Horticultural Show we inadvertently omittert to montiou that the judges were Mr F. Hunt and Mr Kitnoy, with Mr F. Y. Lothbridge as referee. It is almost needless to say that these gentlemen performed thoir duties to tho satisfaction of everyone. It is expected that tho cheapness of hops all over tho world at the present time will be an inducement for brewers to use them in the manufacture of beer. Quassia, Grains of Paradise, &c, are becoming more drugs in the trade. Occasional murmurs are heard on the Foilding railway platform at the "want of time" kept by what is popularly known as the " noon" train, We may remind grumblors that the time for arrival of this tram is 11. 00 a.m., instead as 11. 00 as it was months ago, which explains the position. A list of articles received without address may now be seen at tho post office. Among other curious articles are no less than eighteen separate copies of "Future Life" (Swodenbt r ;), evidently posted by somo fanatical follower without address to attract attontion. Tenders are invited by Messrs Godfrey and Oldershaw for the erection of 220 chains of who fencing. Specifications may be scon at the offices of Messrs Ilalcombe and Sherwill, Kimboltou road, or at tho residence of the advertisers, StowBedon, Boaconsfield. Tho "Rev. J. Clover will preach his farewell sermons to-morrow. This gentleman will leave early noxt week for the South Island. He will take with him the good wishes and esteem of every resident in tho district to many of whom he has endeared himself by his unaffected piety, and sincerity in good works. A Maori named Hemi Kuki (Jamos Cook) was brought from Waitara a few days ago to New Plymouth, in custody as a dangerous lunatic. His strongest hallucination is that he is tho famous circurn-navigator, Captain Cook himself. Yesterday we saw weighed a Langshan roost or chicken selected from a brood hatcliod on October 29, from eggs forwarded to a Feilding resident by Mr F. Cooper, of Wellington. The bird, although only a few daj r s over four months old, turned the scale at 61b 4ozs. Tho average weight of tho other chickens was about s£lb.s. To-day Mr Mills informs the Foilding public and the settlers in tho surrounding districts that he has purchased the business of Mr D. Pringl ), saddler, Forgusson street. Most of our readers are awaro that Mr Mills has beon managing this establishment for Mr Pringle for a good man}' months, and has gathered around him a very largo connection. We hope now that he has started on his own account, ho will do well, and that his business will bo still further ox tended. If good workmanship and attention to orders secures a trade, Mr Mills is certain to do well and prosper. The European and Maori scholars of the Awahuri Sunday School had their 1 annual treat lust Monday afternoon. It was an interesting sight to see snch a number of children, many of them very young indeed, assembled to enjoy themselves. Tea was provided in the schoolroom, lent for the occasion. A good number of prizes were distribut id, and tho children sang several of S'mkey's hymns. Tho Rev. J. Jones was present, and pleased tho young people with his magic lantern. Many of the views exhibited were of a religious character. Those wrro followed by others representing Jack tho Giant killer, Ali Buba, Cinderella, and similar ones of a more amusing character. The Hawke's Bay Herald says that a merchant in Napier last week received a package of acid that should have Been shipped as such, but that bore no external statement of the contents and that had been consequently stowed, handled, and charged for as ordinary cargo. Such an action m England would be felony, «nd if the Imperial Act applies in Ne«* Zealand it is felony here also. In any case such conduct is deserving of very severe punishment. The P. B. Herald tells the following tale in connection with the death of Mr Morris, chief officer of the Manapouri :— A pathetic incident in connection with live terrible event was th« finding of ft piece of paper on the side ©f Mr Morris' berth with his wife's address written in a trembling hand, evidently when he had b-come seriously ill.
