This Day. Before E. Ward, Esq., E.M. G. C. Hill, Town Clerk, proved that ho had been appointed valuator, and that he had made the usual declaration. Also that he had Bent notices in accordance with the provisions of the Act. W. Aruott— Application for reduction. No appearance. 0. Brown objected to pay the rates, as Mr Lodger, the owner, should pay. Mr "Ward said this would not release Mr Brown. A letter was produced in which Mr Ledger agre«d to pay the rates. Application refused. Charles Bray, for the Foresters' Court. —Mr T. W. K. Foster appeared. Reduced to £25, from £40, by consent. R. C. Dowling. — No appearance. John Bartholomew. — No appearance. W. Fowles applied for valuation to be reduced from £30 to £20. There were 40 acres partly improved land valued at £7 per acre ; would net sell it for £10 | per acre ; the property is worth £400 ; iis now receiving £20 a year for it ; it is let for six years ; was hot aware that his son put it down on the Property-tax ! return at a letting value of 40 per annum. j Application granted. G. W. Fowles.— Similar property, but with a dwelling house on it, valued at : £40; rated at £30. Reduced to £21 10s. i Otte Hubner.— Rated at £10; reduced ■ to £3 10s. " W. Boyd, for Wellington Trust and Loan Company. — No appearance. The name of W. R. Waters for the Northern Loan Company was substituted by consent. Elizabeth FitzGerald objected to pay a higher rate for her property. No appearance of objector. j F. Jeffries, objected to his property being valued at £50. By consent the annual value was reduced to 30s. D. R. Lewers objected to his name being on the roll for a section he had sold to J. Bagnall. Altei-ation made as requested. I J. F. H. Lynne appealed against his property being valued at £42 ; was willing to pay on £25. Mr Lynne was ■ sworn, and said his property consisted of 15 acres grazing land, fenced, with a - I roomed cottage and a store, which he ! would shut up shortly and turn into an outhouse ; also an acre of orchard and garden ; Government valuation of the ; property was £4.50 ; had no idea of the value ; could noither sell it nor let it ; ■ had tried to let it from time immemorial. Mr Arnott gave ' evidence, as to the value of the property in Feildlng; he valued the land at £23 a year ; £10 an acre is all the land is worth. Mr Hill deposed as to how he arrived at the letting values of the property. Reduced to £30. [Left sitting.]
