=fAn ordinary meeting of this board WAS held on Saturday afternoon. Present — Messrs Taylor (chairman), Williamson, Saxon, Tyerman, Bruce. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Correspondence was read as follows : From chairman Manchester Road Board re Pohangina-road. From Commissioner of Property-tax, statkig that a voucher had been forwarded to the Treasury for payment of £375 on account of subsidy under "The Local Bodies Finance and Powers Act, 1885." •. Circular from Wairarapa County Council on the subject of local goyern- : ment. finance. ; , From Mr Bruce, M.H.R., enclosing . letter from Minister of Public Works, which stated that the application of the board for a refund of certain money expended over and above the - amount granted under the Eoads and .•Bridges Construction Act, could not be entertained. From Mr W. T. Bennifield re trees on road line adjoining his section in the Harbour Board block. From Mr F. Owen, surveyor, with account of charges for deviation through sections 217 and 218 on Barrows-road. From Mr Fitton, asking that his name be placed on the roll instead of Mr T.. Wareham's for section 186, Kiwitea. . Mr Haynes waited on the board • and pointed out that he had no road to his land except though private property,, and asked the board to do something in the matter. He had been there, nine years, and had made tracks for himself. The Chairman said that the road :.line had been felled, but it wanted a . track made and some culverts put in. • After some discussion, it was decided .that the engineer give an estimate of the probable cost of a track eight feet wide. . ... Mr Oldershaw waited on the board to ask if they would make a side-cut-ting on Maekay's road, near Messrs Godfrey and Oldershaw's property. ; • -Mr Williamson pointed out that it *was really a deviation that was wanted, which would be a great saving in the : cost of making the road. Mr. Saxon suggested that Messrs <Jodfrey and Oldershaw make the transfer of- the property to the board, and the board should then make the road>; v -. . This was decided upon, and Mr Oldershaw arranged to consider the .'matter, and let the Chairman know Jbis decision. Proposed by Mr Taylor, seconded jby Mr Bruce, That the engineer be authorised to expend a sum of £30 in opening up an eight-foot track from the Kimbolton road to Mr Haynes' . property. — Carried. The . Engineer reported that the work on the Pohangina road was not , tforward enough to do any metalling .at present. Kesoived, That the alteration of name from Thomas Wareham to ... Thomas Fitton be made as requested. Mr Ty reman said it would be as well to arrange in what manner the : subsidy be divided. Resolved, That the subsidy bo divided as follows : — Pohangina ward i>6o 15s, and. the balance be between the three. main roads. . Proposed ;by Mr Williamson, seconded by M r Tyreman, That tho engineer be instructed to call for . tenders for metalling 80 chains more or Less, on Rimbolton road, metal 6 inches deep, by 12 feet wide. Aud also tenders, for 20 chains of formation ajid ,80, chains metal, more on less on Mackay's line, 6-inches deep by 12 feet wide. — Carried. It was resolved, That tenders be called for, formation of continuation of Cheltenham cross road to Mackay's road, .Piieet wide. Kesoived; That a special meeting be held: on Saturday, 6th March, at 2 p.m. Mr moved, That deferred payment moneys in Waituna . ward, .< dw6 ' from the Government be expended on Williamson's road, and that the clerk write to the Waste Lands Board for their approval. — Carried. Accounts were passed for payment and the board adjourned.
