His Eoyal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh has started for Malta, in order to assume command of the Mediterranean squadron. During the recent reverses of King Milan, a revolution was imminent in Servia m favour of Prince Peter Karageorgeovitch, and tho latter now pro* claims the expulsion of King M ilan. It is expected that a South Australian loan will be placed in the market early in April. The wheat market is unchanged, and the supplies from foreign parts are only moderate. The Otago Wool Growers Cempany has been registered with a capital of £100,000. The combined squadrons which were despatched to Greece t© prevent naval operations on the part of that power, hare rendezvoused at Neda (sic), the French fleet only being absent. Mr A. Hearn, who opposed Mr Parnell at the general election, invites the Irish National League to declare whether, if separation were granted, they would not be opposed to Federation. It is intended to bleckade the Greek fleet. The State Legislature of San Francisco intend to ask Congress to grant a sub" vention for the purpose of laying down a cable between San Francisco and the Sandwich Islands. The Government of those Islands are favourable to its construction. The Waterloo Cup was run to-day, and was won by Miss Glendyne, who divided the stakes last year with Bit of Fash on. Penelope was the runner-up. In the House of Commons, Mr Henniker Heaton has tabled a notice to the effect that it is desirable that all the colonial forces should be placed under the control of the War Office, and that they should receive similar rights and privileges to those bestowed on Imperial forces ; and also that information should be obtained from the colonies whether they would be willing to contribute to the cost of such a proposal, February 21. His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales has left town for Cannes, in the south of France. The Euapehu arrived to«day from Wellington with her cargo of meat in good condition. The Greek Governme.it are reported . to be showing some inclination to yield to the demand ot the Powers that shsshould demobilise her forces.
