Shocking Cruelty to a Horse

(PEB UNITED FU7.SS ASSOCIATION.) Nelson, February 10. A charge of shocking cruelty to a horse was heard at the Bright water court today. William Harris and David Currin were charged with cruelty beating and illlreating a horse by kicking it and beating it and pulling off a portion of its tongue, thereby causing it such torture and agony that it became necessary to destroy the animal Harris . pleaded g.iilty, Currin being defended. Harris was .-sentenced to one month's imprisonment with hard labour, Currin being fined £5 and costs. The horse refusing to move, and kicking, the defendants whipped and beat the horse, ultimately catching hold of its tongue, some five inches of which came afray. They afterwards took the horse avny and shot it, and stat tl in court that they had been drinking and knew nothing of what oc« curred.
