Feilding Borough Council
The ordinary meeting of the Council was held on Thursday evening; Present —Mr F. Y. Lethbridg«, Mayor, Crs Eade, Foster, Bishop, Fowles, P. Thomson, Worsfbld, and Richardson. . ■ The minutes of the previous ordinary meeting were read and confirmed. The following correspondence was read:— From T. Barker, re formation-of Duke street. From Messrs J. Taylor, J. Jensepi, and J. Bishop, applying for permission to light fires at their respective smithies, for the purpose of tiring wheels. ■•■'"■■ ? ■ Proposed by O Woref old, seconded by Or Fowles,- That the application of Messrs Jensen, Bishop, and Taylor be accorded.— Carried. r _. '^ The report of the Finance Committee was read, and accounts amounting to £51 3s 3d passed.. • : The report of the Public Works Committee was read, and passed, with certain reservations. £444 12s 8d was the total amount of the accounts. The Mayor reported that he had, in company with Mr Bray, the Borough Engineer, met Dr J6hnß^,-with reference to theJpurchase of: land, necessary to be taken for the divwiPQnsof the Makino stream. The majority of the Councillors expressed the opinion that the demand., waain excess of the value of the lan<U •■ BuroughFngii.eer suggested, through tho Mayor, that the consideration of the matter be held over until next metoting, in order that the Council .might be supplied with more definite data for their information and guidaniA, This course was adopted. . ; } With reference to the application of Mr T. Barker, Cr Eade proposed,>Cr Richardson seconded, That Mr Barker be informed the Council will enterikaiii his petition as soon as possible.— Carried. ! Be stationery for the Council, the Finance Committee reported they -had examined the tenders for stationery, sent in by Mr W. Carthew and Mr W. Beading, and found that although Mr Beading's goods were tile lowest in price, yet Mr Carthew's were. the best in quality. . . .Cr Fowles said that Mr Beading** tender was informal, and therefore ought not to be received. After some slight discussion r itwaß proposed by Cr Eade, seconded by Cr Richardson, That it be an instruction to the Town Clerk to get half of the stationery from Mr Beading, and half from Mr Carthew as required.—Carried. : . . , A petition was received from a number of property holders . in Man? Chester street, with reference to the formation of fomtpaths. Ihe petition was read, and ordered v to . lie on the taMe till i.ext meeting. ■ - ■• :■:-, It was reeolved That the Town Cle^k; be authorised, to draw £5 for petty^ cash. The Mayor said that the Council coul«l dp nothing in the matter of the petition of Mr Luke Ward for, a monetary concession to recoup him for loss on a contract through an error in .'calculating the quantity of timber required for the said contract, and foe which Mr Ward had been' the successful .tenderer. /■" ■■■__■ -->.. : : T''\:\" This was all the -business and the Council adjourned. . - ■■'"'*'£,-- ■-/?■'
