The Fire Brigade Competition

[PEB UNITED PBRSS ASSOCIATION] Napier, January 27. The fire brigade's competition to-day attracted a large attendance of the public, over 3000 persons being present. The arrangements were excellent, and there were no complaints or grumbling on the part of competing teams. The results of to-day's competition are as follows : — Hose reel practice for five men ; Ist prize, handsome trophy, five gold medals, and £80 cash — Dunedin, 55 sec, 1 ; South Dunedin, 58*6 sec, 2 ; Napier, 59'4sec, 3. Engine practice for five men; Ist prize, a handsome trophy and five gold medals (presented by the Fire Insurance Association), and £80 cash — Spit, 50*8 sec, 1 ; Dunedin City, 51sec, 2 ; Napier, sr2sec, 3. Ladder race, for one man; three prizes, 1 1 guineas ; thirty contested ; run in couples until only four men were left in, when they ran against time — Ballarat East, 12-2 sec, 1 ; Wanganui (first representative), 12.4 sec 2.
