At a meeting of policeholders of the Government Life Insurance Association 64 Mere present and seven proxies the total amount of policies represented being £29,810. The following; resolutions were passed; — "That this meeting cannot too strongly condemn . the appointment of Mr Honry Driver to the post of manager in Dunedin of the Dunedin agency — firsst on the ground that such appointment is unnecessary to the advaucemeut of the Association ; secondly, that Mr dapcott, late agent, vrho is acknowledged to be one of the most experienced agents in New Zealand, only received a salary and commission amounting m all to about £600 per annum. Thirdly that Mr Driver did not previously hold a position in the Association. This meeting is of opinion that all first class appointments should be filled by tried and experienced officers in the Association who might fairly claim to be eligible for such promotion." Carried unanimously. That this meeting views with regret mingled with alarm the ap parent use of the Association for political purposes as instanced in the case of Mr Driver's appointment and would urge the Board to take steps to secure an amendment of the Act in the direction of placing more power in the hands of the policyholders by increasing the number of elective members of the Board, while decreasing the number of Government officials and nominees now upon it." The Mayor occupied the chair The final motion carried was, that the above resolutions be forwarded to Mr Gk Fisher, to lay before the next meeting. This was carried with cheers.
