At the Resident Magistrate's Court ■ this ; afternoon Edward Shaw, a well- -,.; known solicitor' and • barrister, was . that he did on the 15th 'No- • vember, 1884, at Wellington, Having * ;l>een- entrusted by one Alexander MoMinn, . as : an- attorney or other .agent, with a valuable security, to wit a cheque -or order drawn by one Alexander McMinn on the Union Bank of i Australia, Palmerßton North, for the sum of £83 2s 2d,; bearing date the s 11th of November, 1884, and payable - 1» bearer, for a special purpose, withoutany authority to negotiate, transfer, 'br jledge ; the same, and did in violation of good faith, and contrary to the object or purpose* for which such valuable security was entrusted him, unlawfully negotiate, transfer, or ■ • pledge and convert to his. own use or benefit such valuable security or the proceeds of the same. . Only formal evidence, was taken, and. as the prosecutor was absent the case was adjourned until next Friday afternoon.
