[per united press association.] GisBOBNB. December 31 George Tajlor, aged 75, died of apo« pl«xy in an hotel. He had been in this district 45 years. Chbistchubch, December 31: Fester day evening a boat containing two lads, named Gee and Taylor, was capsized in the river Waimakariri, at Kaiapoi. Taylor was drowaed, but Gee scrambled out. He went horn» and to bed. About an hour afterward his father elicited from him that Taylor had fallen into the river. Search was made and the body recovered. Woodvilxe, December 31. A little boy, sen of Mr Gcwer, butcher, was rushed by a cow this morning. The horn entored the child's eye, and pierced the brain, making a fearful wound. Death is expected momentarily. Dunedin, December 31. The house of Mr John Boss, c«al dealer, at Caversham, was burnt down this morning It was insured in the Standard Office for £275. Napier, January 1. The long-looked-for rain fell this morning in the bush, and when the last train left this afternoon all fear of a further spread of the fire was over. Tke firemen and their engines have returned to town. They were instrumental in saving a large amount of property.
