Mr Carthew's Christmas Display

« That he might be well prepared for the heavy demands made on his stock at Christmas time, Mr Carthew sent large orders some months ago to his London agents, and so timed their execution that the goods should arrive here within a few days of that festive season. By the Buapehu and Coptic the cases came duly to hand. The selection of toys, funny photos, cromos, are too numerous for us to mention, and even a faint idea can only be got by looking at the thousand and one other articles in the two large windows of the shop. Within the show room are discovered books suitable for all tastes. Christmas numbers of the Graphic, Illustrated London News, Yule Tide, and other periodicals, all of which are accompanied by the most marvellous and beautiful colored engravings, steel platei, and other illustrations. The Christmai cards are in endless variety and must be seen to be thoroughly appreciated. The articles for ladies, in the form of colored wool, crewel work, fancy work boxes, &c, &c, are very choice and marked with great taste in their selection. Those ' volumes intended for presentations, or school prizes, are excellent and admirably adapted for the purposes for which they have been imported. Last but not least is the Shilling Table where there is "something for everybody" great and small, old and young.
