Hospitals District Board
♦ The second meeting of the Hospitals District Board was held yesterday, when there were present — Messrs Jackson (in the chair), Snelson, Thynne, West, Wilson, Macarthur, Beckett, and Poison. During the consideration of the minutes, and before they were confirmed, Mr Peat brought up the question of the appointment of Mr Brooking at £120 and the Board went into committee on the matter. — It was resolved, That Mr Brooking should be appointed as clerk till the 31st of March 1886. The other resolutionsof the previous meeting were agreed to nem eon. On the motion of Mr Macarthur, seconded by Mr Beckett, it was resolved, That fivejshould be a quorum. The Chairman said they had done nothing in the matter of paying in moneyß, as there was a difficulty in knowing whether there were to be two banking accounts, but now that the Government had decided there should be two, the moneys would be banked. Regarding the subscriptions, the Chairman reported that the following had been received : — Charitable Aid — Kiwitea £5, Marton £5, Halcombe £l 2s 6d, Manawatu £5, Palmerston £10, Bulls £14 10s, Turakina £2, Feilding £15, and Patea £100. Hospitals— Marton £4 18s 2d, Eangitikei £58 15s, Halcombe £1 12, Manawatu £39 ss, Palmerston £16 18s 9d, Bulls £2 7s lid, Turakina £1 8s 9d, Wanganui Borough £34 4s 6d, Wanganui County £38 15s Bd, Waitotara County £41 8s 9d, Donation £5. Total Charitable Aid £168 2s 6d. Hospitals £244 14s 6d. The Chairman acknowledged the receipt of £5 from an annonymous contributor. A letter was read from the Patea District Board covering £100 subscription, and complaining that the notices of levies had not been gent to them instead of to the County Council and Borough Counoil. — It was resolved, That their notices should be agreed to on this matter. — The Chairman said he would take the advantage of the meeting regarding the banking of the moneys, on which they should have the subsidy. — Mr Peat said that this was not the proper meeting to consider it, and when the proper time came he would move that the district be divided according to law. He considered the charitable aid divisions were not in accordance with the Act. — A resolution confirming the action of the chairman in calling for tenders was passed, and the meeting adjourned for lunch. — Herald.
