Diomedes is by Totata, out of Plover, by Sir Hercules. Totara is by old Diomffdes!, out of Waimea, by Sir Heruules, out of Flora Mclvor, by Emigrant. Old Dioraedes by Hesperus, out ot Diomedie by Weatherbit. Old Diomedes was tha sire of Kapapo, Malvina, Economy, and Parawhenua. Waimea, the dam of Manuka, Papapa, Puriai, and Wainui, all of whoirt have won several important races on the turf. Plover, by Sir Hercules; Plover the dam of Malvina, Hercules, Dan O'Connell, and other fast horses. Totara, the sire of Longlands, winner of the Great Autumn Handicap, April, 1878, and 1879 ; also Volunteer, second in the Champagne ' States ,: and ran a dead heat with Mata tor Queen's .Plate in Dunedin, and won the Timeru Maiden Plate, l£ miles; in 2m. 45y5., and Flying Stakes, £ mile, in lm. 17|s., at the Wellington jockey Club Meeting, 1880 ; also Merlin, winner of the Spring Handicap at Wanganui; also Totara, winner of the Rangitikei Hunt Club Steeplechase, Waverley Handicap Hurdle Race, and Mauawatu Handicap Hurdles at Palmerston. Diomedes himself is the winner of the Wanganui Welter Weight-for-age Hurdle S.ace; beating Reform, New Year, | Dhudeen, ?arnelJ, and Christmas; won the Turakiria Handicap Hurdles, beating j a large field ; and ran a good third for the Wanganui Grand National Steeplechase, carrying 12st. 71bs., giving the winner, Ruahine, Ist. 51b«., and tlu> second horse, Dhudeen, 2sfc. slbs., thereby sh owing' tliat he is a weight carrier, and has exccptionnlly good staying power. Diomedes was awarded first prize at the Wanganui A. and P. Association's show as a sire best calculated to improve the breed of saddle horses. Diomedes is a rich bay with black points, stands 16f hands 'high, with immense bone lind muscle, good action, i« 7 years old, and is considered to be one of the best cross-country horses in New Zealand.
