N.8.-^-A Labor Exchange and ' General Want Agency has been es- ! ; tablished in connection with the busi- 1 ness, thus affording . the means of ! facilitating the supply of all kinds of Vacancies and THeI^aTEST AMERICAN INYENTIOxW rpHE VICTORY of ELECTRICITY. I -r-Since Electricity has been applied for lighting purposes, all efEorts of inventors have been directed to construct a lamp for general domestic use. The reason why this problem has till now not beeu solved, is that none of the inventors could rid themselves of the idea of gas lighting and that all have ' adhered to .the system of producing the Electricity in some central place, or by large uiacainery, instead of first laying down the priucipal that a Lamp popular, must be portable, like an Oil Lamp, and contain the generator «f Electricity in itself, i. c., in the foot of the Lamp. The Norman Electric L'ghtCo. has at last succeeded in completely realizing this ideal of Electric Li*htnii)g,and there is no doubt that this most important in- j vention will bring abuut a complete reylution in all branches' of lighting. Our Electnc Lamp needs neither /Machinery, Conductors, nor any expensive outlay, and is neither complicated, npr disagreeable in manipulation ; all that is necessary is to refill it every fpur of five' days with acid. The cost of lighting will be as cheap as gas (f cents per hour), and it has before the latter the immense advantage^ of neither producing heat, smoke nor carbonic acid, owing to which the air is not impured, and remains at the same degree of temperature. It is further, absolutely inodorouf , and does not need to bo kindled by match, or otherwise, but simply by turning the key, thus avoiding all danger vffire, explosion or suffocation, as in the case or gas, if the key is left open ;, and it must be conceded that this advantage alone is invaluable. TX is further preFerable to any kaowri kind of lighting for the following reasons :— (1.) Its manipulation is so simple that any child can keep it in order. (2.)'. That the Lamp is' portable, and can be removed : like an Oil Lamp, from one place -to another.' . ' (3.) That it neitW requires the disagreeable fixing of the wick, or. the cleaning of the cylinder; ■as in the cast* of Oil Lamps. (4.) That the light produced is a soft and most steady one ; that it neverfflickers, and the flame, though being equal in in power of lighting to gas, can be regulated toany degree. (5.) That eti&ry danger oj fire is abso, lutely exclitded,_as the light wul extinguish immediately, if by any accident the glass surrounding, the burner s"hould be broken. (6-1 That it will burn even in the strongest wind, completely unaffected, thus bemg invaluable for illuminations, lighting of gardens, corridors, &c.
