Boydhouse (Evening Press libel action) to hare the trial at Dunedin. The decision in tbe Hudson inquiry was given to-day. Tbe bench were of opinion that the charge against Captain Thomas of neglecting to take the necessary precautions, for the safety of Ids ship had been suitainrd, and that the i-cond mate should hare koot tbe lead going when approaching land, especially during thick weather. Tbe bench direo* ted that the certificates of both mon should be suspended for three months, but they would wake no order for costs against them. Waipawa, This Day. The Mayor presided over a crowded audience, with a good number nut unemployed. Resolutions were carried in favour ot sending a petition to the Government, explaining the distress, and asking the Government through the Minuter of Public Works to supply labour for those in need of it, as bad been done in similar eases at Chnstchnrob and Dsnwdin. Petitions are to be sent to the. City Council and Harbor Board. A list of ISO names, principally married men, was given in to the meeting as out of employ* merit. Dcnkdin, December 4. A woman named Mary Goddard at* tempted to commit snioido yesterday by walking into the bay and lying down in three feet of water. She was rescued by a young lad, and brought up to-day and remanded., ' Gold to the value of £20,000 was brought down by the escort last night. Tixabu. December 4* Charles Sohodley and W. 'Kennedy circus proprietor, and employee, wrre charged at the Magistrate's Court this morning, on remand from Dunedin, with assaulting Mr M. JV Goody on November 81, at Timaru. Complainant attended the dress circle with his wife and another lady. Sohodley were fined £6, but Kennedy was dis* oharged. Wakoakui, This Day. The Native \ onief Pehira Tuiei, who took part as a friendly Native in the Maori war, and was wounded at the taking of Te Koeti's pah in 1869, died np the Wanganui Biver this week. In response to the request of a majority, the Native Minister bM ordered a military funeral to take plaoe to-morrow.
