Something Worth Knowing
Tho San Francisco correspondent of the ' Auckland Herald' writes :— "The latest fashion is to have your nails •cleaned— 1 ! mean, beautified, for we will suppose that a lady always keeps her nails free from grime. There are quite a number of manicures in the «ity now, although only one started in the business two years ago. You pay four shillings to have your nails doiie up. First they are cut into a pretty shape by filing. The quick is -rubbed gently down, and, with a very fine pair of scissors, all " hang-nails " And "grandmother's blessings" cut off. Then you rub the nails with a little red salve (lip salve), or a salve made with white wax and oil, which does as well. Then take powder— -cornflour or prepared chalk will do — And, with a bit of chamois leather, xub till they shine. Anyone can "fix aup" her own nails, the great beauty being to bring np a fine polish. Twenty minutes each day devoted to this process keeps your nails as perfect as possible; but you should never cut your nails— only file them.
