In view of the competition from Australia and South America, this step towards minimising transport charges is ono in the right direction, and will no doubt conduce to a further expansion of the trade. Dunedin. — Tho s.B. Aoraugi is now loading, aud will take over 7,000 carcases mutton. When this shipment is finished, the -works at Burnside will be stopped for about a month. The iioxt vessel to load will probably he the s.B. Elderslie. Ghristchurch. — The export for the month from Lyttelton amounts to 8,000 carcases mutton shipped by the R.M.S. Tongariro, which left this port on the 12th October, sailing for London via Wellington and Auckland. At the Belfast Factory, freezing was suspended from October 12th to 26th to enable the workmau to proceed with the new extensions. Operations were reeuuiod on October 26th, and a shipment of 5,000 carcases mutton is being prepared for the R.M.B. Aorangi, which is expected to loave Lyttelton on the 14 th inst., for London via Wellington. Auckland.— Tho NZ.
