MANCHESTER STREET FOOTPATHS.
TO THE EDITOB OF THE STAB. Sib, — I see by your issue -of Saturday that our Manchester street Councillors are again looking after themselves. On their recommendation a resolution has been passed by, the Borough Council that the Engine^pr be. authorised to prepare plans, specifications and estimates for the formation of the footpaths on both sides of Man* Chester street from Grey to Fergusson v _. street, the expense to be deducted from' money to be expended from handccount for said street. This seems to be very 5 irregular, and even if the resolution is to be at once upset, who is to pay for this expense ? In submitting the schedule of works it was distinctly understood that no footpaths were to be undertaken. Our Manchester street Councillors are far too grasping. There are lots of scheduled works to be first constructed out of the loan money ; after these are finished it will be time to think of further works. Perhaps it is not generally known that from the vote of £150 for the Manchester street bridge, the Bum of £300 (just twice the amount of the vote) has been expended, and charged to the loan account — about which more anon. — I am, &0., .
