Footpaths
We congratulate the members of the Borough Council on their almost unanimous decision to assist in the formation of footpaths in the principal business streets in the Borough The risk to life or limb of women and children, in Manchester street, by passing vehicles and horsemen, has been pointed oui in these columns on many occasions. Fortunately, the alertness of foot passengers and the care of drivers have prevented hitherto the occurrence of any very serious accidents, but still there have beea some very narrow escapes. The liberal offers which have been made in some instances by property owners to contribute towards the expenses of the work, proves how keenly they are alive to the benefits to be derived from a business point of view. The ap-
pearance of the streets will be also much improved by side-walks. Councillor Ease deserves credit for his persistent and successful efforts in this connection.
