Diomedes is by Totara, out of Plover, by Sir Hercules. Totara is by old Diomedes, out of Waimea, by Sir Heruules, out of Flora Mclvor, by Emigrant. Old Diomedes by Hesperus, out ot Diomedie by Woatherbit. Old Diomedes was tha sire of Kapapo, Malvina, Economy, and Parawhenua. Waimea, the dam of Manuka, Papapa, Puriai, and Wainui, all of whom have won several important races on the turf. Plover, by Sir Hercules ; Plover the dam of Malvina, Hercules, Dair O'Connell, and other fast horses. Totara, the sire of Longlands, winner of the Great Autumn Handicap, April, 1878, and 1879; also Volunteer, second in the Champagne Stakes, and ran a dead he-it with Mata tor Queen's Plate in Dunedin, and won the Timeru Maiden Plate, lj miles, in 2m. 45r5., and Flying Stakes, i mile, in lm. 17|s., at the W T ellingt<->n Jockey Club Meeting. 1880; also Merlin, winner of the Spring Handicap at Wanganni ; also Totara, winner ef the Rangitikei Hunt Club Steeplechase, j Waverley Handicap Hurdle Race, and M anawatu Handicap Hurdles at Palmer- j ston. I Diomedes himself is the winner of the Wanganui Welter Weight-for-age Hurdle Race, beating Reform, New Year, Dhudeen, Parnell, and Christmas ; won the Turakina Handicap Hurdles, heating, a large field; and ran a good third for' the Wanganui Grand National Steeplechase, carrying 12st. 71bs., giving thej winner, Ruahine, Ist. slbs., and the second horse, Dhudeen, 2sfc. slbs., thereby showing that he is a. weight carrier, and has exceptionally good staying power. Diomedes was awarded first prize at the Wanganui A. and P. Association's show as a sire best calculated to improve the breed of saddle horses. Diomedes is a rich bny with black points, stands 16| hands high, with immense bone and muscle, good action, is 7 years old, and is considered to be ono of the best cross-country horses in New Zealand. Diomedes will travel as under : Mondays — Ashurst, via Ashurst road. Tuesdays— Ashurst to Palmerston. "Wednesdays — Palmerston to Sandon. Thursdays— Bulls & Lower Rangitikei. Fridays — Halcombe.
