Feilding Borough Council
A meeting of the above Council was held in tbe Council Chambers on Thursday evening last. Present — Mr Macarthur, (Mayor), Councillors Thompson, Fowles, Bichardson, Bade, "Worsfold, Nicholas, Bishop, Goodbehere and P. Thomson. The minutes ofthe previous general meeting were read and confirmed. The minutes of the special meeting were read and confirmed. The following correspondence was read : — From John Aitken re ranger pounding a cow ; from J. L. Bees re bridge to his shop ; from Mr Higgin and others re footpaths; from -Mr Cottrell re poundkeeper; estimates from Mr Bray re footpaths. . . Be Hospital and Charitable 2tim\. Board, Cr Goodbehere proposed, and Cr J. C. Thompson seconded, That Mr Macarthur be elected to' represent the Feilding Borough Council on the Board. — Carried. The Town Clerk was instructed to advise the Premier of the election.Proposed by Cr Thompson, seconded by Cr Bichardson. That the request of Mr Higgin and others re footpaths in Kimbolton road be granted, and* his very liberal offer be accepted, and that the engineer be instructed ta attend to the same without delay. — Carried. Tenders for the formation of Hobson street were then opened as follows': — J. Aitken, £258 12s ; J. Belfit, £389 ls 4d; D. Younger, £257 7s; T. Smith, £340 15s. The Council went into committee to consider the loan works. On the Council resuming ordinary business Cr Nicholas proposed, and Cr Worsfold seconded,. That the tender of D. Younger for the the formation of Hobson street be accepted.^—Carried. A general discussion, took piaoe on the question as to which streets should be done first. Proposed by Cr Nicholas, and seconded by Cr P. Thomson, That the engineer be authorised . to select, tho streets to be formed from the schedule as he considered necessary .-r-Carrjed. Cr Goodbehere proposed^ and* Or Thompson seconded, That the engineer; be requested to advise the Council as to the order in which tenders should be called for the formation and metalling of the. streets which are now to be done, and report to the Council at the next meeting. — Lost.. Proposed by the Mayor and seconded by Cr Eade, That the engineer be hereby authorised to call for tenders for the streets, he may select as having precedance of construction. — Carried. A petition was then read from certain ratepayers asking an inquiry in re the poundkeeper and ranger. The Mayor said that practically the ranger had an agreement which would bind the Council for 12 months. • Cr Nicholas said it was a year's engagement. Cr Bichardson said he did not think the agreement was binding, great dissatisfaction existed. The Council went into committee to discuss the matter of the pound. Cr Goodbehere here retired. On the Council resuming it was proposed by Cr Eade, and seconded by Cr Fowles, That the petitioners, re the ranger be informed that the Council cannot discharge the present ranger until a period of twelve months from the date of his contract with the Council, and that they must seek their remedy in the B.M. Court if he commits any illegal act. — Carried. The notice of motion given by Cr Eade re footpaths was then considered, and the general feeling seemed to be that footpaths should be formed in Manchester street. Cr Eade proposed, and Cr Thompson seconded, That the engineer be instructed to prepare plans, specifications and estimates for the formation of the footpaths en both sides of Manchester street from Grey street to Fergusson street, the expenses to be deducted from money to be expended from loan account for said street, and the gravelling to be dene by the property holders on the said street.r— Carried. The Town Clerk was authorised to draw £5 for petty cash. The Council then adjourned.
