Salvation Army

The opening of the Salvation Army Barracks on Sunday was an event which will long be remembered by those who took part in the cereniom . The services began at 7 a.m. and were continued, with short intervals, until late in the evening. Last night there was a crowded tea meeting. The whole of the seats in the Barracks were filled, but the arrangements made for the accommodation of the guests were so complete that everything passed off in the smoothest-man-ner. A torchlight procession was then organised, and the Army marched through the principal streets, singing hymns and other suitable songs. After the procession, a meeting was held in the Barracks, which was crowded to excess. The Rev. J. Clover gave an address showing the harmouy which ought to exist between those who were trying to obtain a common salvation. Other speakers testified at some length. Although the meeting was enthusiastic yet the proceedings of the Army were most orderly and were throughout unmarkpd by the slightest interruption, except from a few well-dressed young fellows who showed wretched taste, by occasional senseless remarks. They were removed by the polite.
