Ladies Playing Cricket

The popularity of cricket for girls (says an English exchange) is evidently increasing. In the account of a recently played match we read that "Miss Leslie spanked Miss Hibbert hard for two." It shows a great deal for Miss Hibbert's forbearance that, after this occurence, the game was allowed to proceed peacefully. "Leg-before-wicket" is not recognised by cricketesses. It is called ' 'f rock-before wicket," and its consequences are speedily dealt with, by the umpire. A curious cricket match was lately played at Bayham Abbey between eleven ladies and eleven ge.ntlemen, the latter plying broomsticks in place of bats. The ladies were victorious by 12 runs. Among them, the Marchioness of Camden, the Ladies Rose and Violet and Idina Nevill, and Lady Clementina Pratt, particularly distinguished themselves.
