Feilding School Committee

The adjourned meeting of the above was held last night to censider the report of the Inspector of Schools on the Feilding school. Present — Messrs Nicholas (chairman), Watts (secretary), Cottrell, Rutherford, and Eade. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. j The head-teacher's report was read, ■ ! and showed the attendance for the two weeks ending the 25th instant — Boys. Girls. Tl. Average roll .. 146 138 284 , Average attendance .. 118-33 107-39 225-72 The log book was also read. A general discussion then took place on the subject which had made the i meeting necessary, and in support of the opinion that a radical change was , absolutely necessary in the manage- , nient of the school, the following figures were read, being extracted from the report. From these it will be seen that the average of passes was very low, and not at all a fair return for the numerical teaching strength . employed : —

: Average *f passes, 47*3 It was stated that the results of the . previous year were bad enough, and . it was expected that the teachers would have made strenuous efforts to . overtake the work which was before them of bringing up the average of passes this year, but the results of the [ last examination showed that either , the task was beyond their power or > they had shamefully neglected the trust placed in their hands. The r Committee therefore felt it was their : duty, as representing the parents of j the children, to suggest that drastic measures should be adopted by the <■ Education Board for the district, and • it was ; Resolved, That the Committee of the Feilding school, not being satisfied ' with the results under the present ' staff of teachers ask the Board to ' re-organise the said staff and make fresh appointments. This closed the business for which 1 the committee had met.
