Waimea, the dam of Manuka, Papapa.rPuriaij and) Wain'ui, all of whom have won, several important races on the turf. Plover, by Sir Hercules ; Plover the 4am of -Malvina, Hercules, Dili '--O'Coanfell, -and other fast horses. Totara, the sire of Longlands, winner of the Great Autumn Handicap, April, 1878, and JSfft; Qso) Volunteer, second in the ' Champagne Stakes, and ran a dead heat with Mata tor Queen's £late in Dunedin, and won the Timeru Maiden Plate, l£ miles, in 2m. 45£5., and Flying Stakes, f mile.r in--ln>:» 17Js-V at the- Wellington Jockey Glub Meeting, 1880; also Meri ' lin, winner of the Spring Handicap at Wanganui; also Totara, winner of the Rangitikei -Hunt Club Steeplechase, ; VVaverley Handicap Hurdle Eace, and Manawatu' Handicap Hurdles at Palmerston. . Diomedes himself is the winner ©f the Wanganui Welter Weight-for-age Hurdle. Eace,, beating Eeform, New Year, Dhud*!en>-Parneli,- and Christmas; won the Turakina Handicap Hurdles.; beating a large field ; and ran a good third far the Wanganui Grand National Steeplechase, carrying 12st. 71bs., giving the winner, Eaahine, Ist. olbs., and the second horse, Dhudeen, 2st. slbs., thereby showing that he is a weight carrier, and has exceptionally good staying power. Diomedes was awarded first prize at the Waneanui A. and P. Association's show as a sire best calculated to improve the breed of saddle horses. Diomedes is a rich bay with black points, stands 16} hands high, with immense bone and muscle, good action, is 7 years old, and is considered to be one of the best cross-country horses in New Zealand.
